Actress Han So Hee has spoken candidly about her decision to remove her tattoos, revealing that the process was far more painful than expected but ultimately necessary for her career as an actress.
Ahead of the release of her upcoming film Project Y, Han So Hee sat down for an interview with SPOTV News on January 16 at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. During the conversation, she reflected on how her image, once closely associated with tattoos and bold fashion, has gradually evolved.
Known for her striking visuals and unique personal style, Han So Hee was long recognized as an actress who openly embraced tattoos. However, over the past several years, she has steadily undergone tattoo removal treatments to expand her range as a performer.

“It really hurts,” she emphasized repeatedly, adding, “I still have some left. I only got tattoos to the extent that they wouldn’t interfere with my work.”
She explained that advancements in technology have made it easier to manage appearances on screen. “These days, tattoo stickers and similar methods are so advanced. I use those instead,” she said. “I don’t feel pressured by the attention on my fashion or tattoos. I’ve always dressed this way, and many people seem to like my personal style.”
Despite that confidence, Han So Hee admitted that tattoos eventually became a limitation in her acting career. “As an actress, there are things I can’t do—like wearing certain dresses,” she said. “There’s also the issue of character diversity. I had tattoos on my arms, and when you need to wear many different outfits and express various moods, it starts to feel like a disadvantage.”

She continued, “That’s why I decided to remove them. I thought I could always get tattoos again someday, but for now, removing them for work felt like the right choice even though it felt like a loss.”
Project Y follows the story of Miseon (Han So Hee) and Dogyeong (Jeon Jong Seo), two women living in the heart of a glamorous city while dreaming of a different future. Pushed to the edge of their lives, they become entangled in a dangerous scheme involving stolen black money and gold bars. Han So Hee plays Miseon, a stunning ace who longs for a life beyond her current reality.
Project Y is set to hit theaters on January 21.
