“Green Night” Actresses Fan Bingbing And Lee Joo-young Show Unexpected Synergy Despite Age And Nationality Differences
Actresses Fan Bingbing and Lee Joo-young boasted about their chemistry
On October 5th, the press conference for “Green Night”, which was part of the 28th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)’s Gala Presentation, was held at KNN Theater in Haeundae, Busan. The director attended the event with the main actresses Fan Bingbing and Lee Joo-young to talk about their work.
“Green Night” depicts the story of Jinsha (Fan Bingbing), who lives the same routines in strange places, meeting the free-spirited green-haired girl (Lee Joo-young) and facing an irreversible night. The movie was officially invited to the Gala Presentation section of the 28th BIFF.
The director shared, “Both Fan Bingbing and I are from Shandong and we are very familiar with Korea. That’s why I decided to film this movie in Korea”.
Introducing “Green Night”, Fan Bingbing said, “The film centers around two women, including their temperament and experience of life”, adding “Jinsha is a careful and gentle woman who hides various stories in her heart. She develops emotional changes after meeting the green-haired girl”. Lee Joo-young also explained, “Green color is an important symbol in this movie. Despite our gender, age, and nationality differences, I discussed a lot with her (Fan Bingbing) and the director to create this movie.”
Lee Joo-young confessed that she was able to complete her role thanks to Fan Bingbing. The actress shared, “Although we didn’t talk much, I think we were able to feel the connections through our eyes and sincerity as we opened our hearts and got closer to each other. In the beginning, the director helped me a lot in creating the green-haired girl. While shooting, it was the eyes and atmosphere from Fan Bingbing’s acting that helped me immerse in my character.”
She continued, “I also doubted myself at first, but the director cast me after much consideration, so I thought I should just trust her and take the challenge”, adding “When I was still hesitant to star in the movie, Fan Bingbing even sent me a handwritten letter. I was very touched by the letter and I felt like I would disappoint them if I didn’t agree to join”.
In response, Fan Bingbing said, “I was very worried when writing the letter. Since we didn’t speak the same languages, I didn’t know how to express our desire to have her in the movie. It was my first time and I felt like I was writing a love letter. I watched movies and dramas starring Lee Joo-young and was very impressed by her acting. I drew a lot of hearts at the end of the letter”.
Regarding the casting of Fan Bingbing and Lee Joo-young, the director said, “I watched ‘Baseball Girl’ and found Lee Joo-young’s acting so lovely. I thought she wanted to show her honest side alongside her strong appearance and her smile was very cute. That’s why I wanted to bring out another side of this girl”, adding “Fan Bingbing played an extroverted and strong woman in her previous work so the movie this time would be a big challenge for her”.
Overcoming her tax evasion scandal, Fan Bingbing returned to acting through “Green Night”. She confessed, “Actors need to spend time to calm themselves down sometimes. Looking at life through a new perspective, meeting new people, and gaining new emotions gave me strength to deal with my life.”
Meanwhile, “Green Night” director, Fan Bingbing and Lee Joo-young will continue to promote the movie through screenings and the GV event on the 6th.
