Goo Hye-sun After Being Mocked On SNL, “I Was Embarrassed Reading The Hate Comments”

Actress-director Goo Hye-sun confessed that she was ashamed of her "memes"

News1 recently released an interview with Goo about the movie “Studio Goo Hye-sun.” In this interview, Goo shared, “I check all the comments on the Internet. I think of what kind of psychology the public has. They see me as a subject in the media, but I at the same time also see what kind of psychology the public has.”

I was embarrassed when I was young. I don’t think such evaluation of a certain piece of work is malicious comments,” Goo said, “I used to wear smoky makeup and saw that people took the name “Frieza” (character in Japanese cartoon Dragon Ball) and called me “Gooieza” as mockery.

I was so embarrassed at the beginning of my 20s. I didn’t do anything wrong with that, but I guess people found it funny because the makeup was unique. At first, I was very embarrassed as they made fun of my body,” she added.

Goo said she is not ashamed of the negative interest in her appearance anymore. However, she said she feels upset when she sees memes of her past dramas. “The drama failed, but the memes didn’t fail. Everyone knows,” Goo said, “Actually, when I act, I shoot hundreds of scenes, and if I do a daily drama for a year, I shoot thousands of scenes, and out of those, they only take a 30 second scene out to mock. It’s embarrassing as an actress.

I’m smiling and talking now, but I’m a little upset. Actually, it’s gone now. But there were also a lot of sexual taunts. There were times when sexual parodies made me think, ‘What is this really about, why am I their target?’” she said, “The culture has changed a lot now. I still have such things as shame, but I’ve given up now.”

In a recent episode of Coupang Play’s “SNL Korea,” comedian Lee Soo-ji parodied a scene of the drama “Blood,” which is famous for the controversy over Goo Hye-sun’s poor acting skills.
