In the interview that comes along with the pictorial, Kevin Oh showed his attachment to the song “Dawn when you and I were asleep” (literal translation), which lyrics were written by Gong Hyo Jin and composed by himself. Regarding the lyrics written by Gong Hyo Jin, such as “Love is written on your shining cheeks on this black night, when unnecessary worries are blooming”, Kevin Oh said, “The song started with something my fiancé wrote one day, and I liked the writing so much that I made it into a song.”

“I didn’t change a single word and leave the lyrics as is,” Kevin Oh said, adding, “It just matched the melody I was writing. It seems like the lyrics were prepared for this melody. It’s really nice that I can sing out the heart of the person I love.”

Next, Kevin Oh then talked about why love is the most important of all, and how love becomes a song. In particular, the singer emphasized,“All you need is love. As the Beatles song said, love is enough. In life, work and fame, many things are important, but the most important of them is love. Not only with lovers, but also with friends and family. So all of my songs are very long-term love. I think it is not just me that does this, but also the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jeff Berkeley, and many of my favorite musicians.”

The singer also showed affection for his now-wife, Gong Hyo Jin, sharing, “I get a lot of inspiration from my fiancé, butI don’t want to describe her simply as a muse. It’s reassuring to have someone who loves and trusts you.”

Regarding his first regular album “Pieces of _” after 6 years of debut, Kevin Oh said, “I worked so coolly that I overshadowed my worries for six years. The title is ‘Piece of _’ because each track contains some emotions, objects, and memories in each blank. When you put everything together, it’s youth. It was a process of synthesizing and completing the words I wanted to say to myself in the past, the sculptures of love, the sculptures of dreams, the sculptures of wounds, and such stories one by one.”

Born in New York, Kevin Oh attended the prestigious Dartmouth College, majored in economics, and worked as a researcher at New York University’s Neuroscience Research Institute. However, his passion is music.

“Even while studying, I played the guitar. I always had a guitar on my lap,” Kevin Oh said, adding, “Music is a dream I’ve really wanted to pursue since I was little, but even I didn’t acknowledge that dream. There was a safer and more established path, so I followed it. However, I thought that if I didn’t do what I really wanted to do, I would regret it. So now I have no regrets.”

Kevin Oh’s pictorial and interview can be found in the November issue of Cosmopolitan.
