The female idols below were all born in 1998, but only a few have the opportunity to walk on a flowery career path.
Dahyun is probably the most successful one among female idols who were born in 1998. She debuted as a rapper under TWICE in 2015. TWICE quickly became Gen 3’s top girl group as they have many PAK (perfect all-kill) songs and won prestigious Daesang awards. Therefore, Dahyun’s position in the idol world also rose rapidly.
Dahyun does not possess gorgeous visuals, but she captivates fans’ hearts with her cuteness, perfect body and flawless white skin. Dahyun’s dynamic and humorous personality is also a factor that helps the female idol become one of the most popular members in TWICE. However, Dahyun has not left a strong impression on the public in terms of music.
Dahyun does not have many lines in the group’s songs, and her rapping voice is not highly appreciated. Only recently did the female rapper have a chance to participate in TWICE Melody Project or do some covers. Unfortunately, because TWICE has cooled down, Dahyun’s reputation is not the same as before. However, she is still the most successful one among idols born in the same year.
Sakura (former IZ*ONE member)
Sakura is also a female idol born in 1998 with a brilliant career. She was originally a member of the Japanese group HKT48, used to be the center of AKB48’s 43rd single and took high places many times in the Senbatsu Election. Coming to Korea to compete in Produce 48, Sakura ranked second and became one of the most popular members in IZ*ONE – the group formed after the show.
IZ*ONE has achieved remarkable success, and Sakura’s reputation has also increased significantly. She was even praised for her improved singing and dancing skills compared to her time in Japan. After the group disbanded, she returned to HKT48 but left soon after to join HYBE Labels.
It is known that the Japanese beauty is about to debut alongside former IZ*ONE member Chaewon under a new girl group produced by HYBE and Source Music in 2022. This shows that Sakura is eagerly sought after. Her future is bright because she is now in the same company with BTS.
Soyeon is one of the most outstanding female idols of KPOP’s 4th Generation for being successful both as an idol and as a music producer. The idol born in the year of the Tiger appeared on the survival show “Produce 101 season 1” and made her solo debut, but only really stood out when she debuted with (G)I-DLE as the leader of the group.
In (G)I-DLE, Soyeon not only leads her teammates but also produces the group’s music and creates its style. Thanks to her contribution, (G)I-DLE won many trophies and awards, and was regularly named in the list of top Gen 4 girlgroups. Unfortunately, because of Soojin’s scandal, the group had to “freeze” its activities for a long time.
However, Soyeon proved her ability by making a solo comeback during (G)I-DLE’s hiatus. With the song “Beam Beam”, the female idol quickly won trophies on music shows. The upcoming time will be challenging for her as she has to lead (G)I-DLE without Soojin in the group, but this will also be an opportunity for Soyeon to prove her ability.
Soojin (former (G)I-DLE member)
While Soyeon is successful in both group and solo activities, her teammate Soojin is not so lucky. In (G)I-DLE, Soojin took on the position of the main dancer. She was once called “HyunA junior” because of her good dancing skills, sexy appearance, and top-notch charisma. Unfortunately, the female idol only shined for a short time and just when her career was on the rise, she was accused of school violence
At the beginning of 2021, a netizen whose younger sister went to the same middle school as Soojin accused the female idol of bullying her younger sister and exposed her naughty past. CUBE Entertainment quickly denied the allegations and the (G)I-DLE member also explained herself but was unable to soothe the victim and netizens. In addition, “High Kick” actress Seo Shin Ae also made many posts implying that Soojin used to bully her as well.
This big scandal caused the girl born in the year of the Tiger to temporarily stop working. During that time, Soojin once again personally clarified the scandal but the evidence the female idol gave was not strong enough to reverse the situation. After months of struggle, Soojin was finally forced to leave (G)I-DLE on August 13, 2021, leaving the group with only 5 members.
To fans, Soojin’s departure from the group is extremely unfortunate because she has a good performing ability and is the owner of many popular fancams. Moreover, they also think that the evidence of Soojin bullying her classmate is not convincing enough, and the female idol might be wrongly blamed. However, for many people, this is an appropriate punishment for school abusers. As for Soojin, she disappeared from the entertainment industry after leaving (G)I-DLE and her idol career seemed to have ended.
E:U is the main dancer and main rapper of EVERGLOW. Many thought the female idol would shine with these two main positions, but the girl born in 1998 is not standing out in the group. Also, EVERGLOW has debuted for 3 years but still hasn’t gained much popularity in Korea, so E:U is not known by many people.
Not only that, E:U was originally the leader of the group but later gave this position to Sihyeon, without any explanation from the company. Recently, EVERGLOW’s image was also affected because member Yiren was in controversy for doing the Chinese new year greetings in Korea. As EVERGLOW is not very popular, many people think that E:U and the other members will be negatively affected, and the future of the female Tiger idol is equally uncertain.
SinB and Umji (former GFRIEND member)
GFRIEND used to be one of the famous Gen 3 groups, so the 98-line duo SinB and Umji have a certain place in the entertainment industry. SinB is the main dancer of the group, when she first debuted, she was called “the second Jessica” because of her appearance similar to the former SNSD member. Umji impresses the public with her makeover. She is more and more beautiful than when she first entered showbiz.
Fans thought that after GFRIEND became an artist under HYBE Labels, the members would have more opportunities, however, the group suddenly disbanded in May 2021. The 6 girls chose their own paths, but SinB and Umji continued to accompany each other in their music careers.
Together with Eunha, the same-age duo joined BPM Entertainment and formed a 3-member group called VIVIZ. Despite their best efforts, fans still regret that SinB and Umji have had ups and downs in their careers.
Taeha (former MOMOLAND member)
Taeha debuted as the main vocalist of MOMOLAND. Since the song “Bboom Bboom” became a big hit, the female idol and her teammates had become more popular.
Thought her important role in the group created an opportunity for Taeha to become more famous, however, she left MOMOLAND suddenly. In November 2019, the company announced that Taeha and Yeonwoo were no longer part of MOMOLAND. Later, the female idol born in 1998 explained that she left the group because she wanted to develop her own career. She began to release covers on YouTube but did not make a significant impact, making many netizens regret that her unborn career was over.
Eunwoo and Rena (former members of PRISTIN and HINAPIA)
Eunwoo and Rena had more difficulties in their career because they debuted twice but failed to achieve success. The 2 girls born in 1998 were originally members of PRISTIN – one of the “dinosaur rookies” in 2017. However, PRISTIN hasn’t been active for a long time and then disbanded in 2019. Eunwoo and Rena were among those who left Pledis Entertainment.
Not giving up, the 2 girls and some other former members of PRISTIN recruited new faces and formed the group HINAPIA. However, HINAPIA disbanded after only 1 year, Eunwoo and Rena did not make any significant progress after that.
Yeeun’s career is not easy even though she is from CUBE Entertainment. Because CLC was not as successful as expected, in the early years, Yeeun did not receive much attention from the public. It wasn’t until the main rapper cut her hair short at the time the group was promoting the song “Black Dress” that she caught the attention.
Yeeun takes the main rap position in the group and has an attractive aura. But because the group could not be successful, she is still a “nugu” after 7 years of debut. Currently, CLC has stopped working indefinitely, it is not clear what direction Yeeun will choose in the future.
