(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon officially apologized for the similarity between “SUN” and ATEEZ’s “WAVE”

Cube Entertainment said, “We were aware of the similarity of some melodies through monitoring immediately after the broadcast, and the artist delivered the situation to the original composer and apologized.

The agency then said, “As much as the similarity is recognized, credit modification should be done, and Soyeon consulted the composer and asked for permission to credit him through the production company. An hour before the song’s release on charts, the composer’s agency opposed the addition of credit, and asked for a re-adjustment through the production company, but the song was released without being reflected with it.

Cube added, “We apologize once again for prioritizing changing the credit when no specific consultation has been made with the composer’s agency, and we will prevent such a thing from happening in the future.”

MBC’s “My Teenage Girl,” which aired on February 27th, released a contest song “SUN” in which (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon participated in writing and composing. At first, the composers were said to be only Jeon So-yeon and Pop Time, but since its release, some have pointed out that some melodies of “SUN” are similar to ATEEZ’s “WAVE” chorus.

Later, Eden-ary, the composer of “WAVE,” has been added to the song’s list of composers on music sites, which made people assume that Soyeon may have admitted the plagiarism. In response, Eden-ary’s agency KQ Entertainment said, “There has been no prior discussion with Eden-ary as well as us.
