From “The Glory” to “In the Name of God”, Netflix’s works made it to the final nominations for 2023 AACA’s main prizes
Netflix’s “The Glory”, “Narco-Saints”, “Physical: 100” and “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” made it to the final nominations for the 2023 AACA’s main prizes
According to Netflix on Oct 4th, dramas “The Glory”, “Narco-Saints”, variety show “Physical: 100” and documentary series “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” were selected as the 2023 AACA National Winners and entered the final nominations. AACA (Asian Academy Creative Awards) is the largest content awards ceremony in Asia that reviews and awards the Asian content market each year. It will be held in Singapore on Dec 6th and 7th this year, announcing award-winning works in various categories such as actors, dramas, variety shows and documentaries.
“The Glory” depicts the story of a woman whose soul was shattered by violence in her childhood and the desperate revenge she has prepared meticulously throughout her life and those who fall into the vortex of her plan. It received 4 nominations: Best Actress (Song Hye-kyo), Best Supporting Actress (Lim Ji-yeon), Best Screenplay (Kim Eun-sook) and Best Drama Series. Thanks to the explosive performances of the actors and the intense catharsis brought by the characters’ meticulous revenge, “The Glory” topped Netflix’s global rankings as well as garnered both popularity and buzz.
“Narco-Saints” was nominated in 3 categories: Best Actor (Ha Jung-woo), Best Supporting Actor (Jo Woo-jin) and Best Director (Yoon Jong-bin). “Narco-Saints” depicts an ordinary entrepreneur who has no choice but to risk his life in joining the secret mission of government agents to capture a South Korean drug lord operating in Suriname. Under the genius direction of director Yoon Jong-bin and the outstanding skills of Korea’s top actors, “Narco-Saints” created a masterpiece with overwhelming immersion and high completion, captivating critics and viewers worldwide.
“Physical: 100”, a survival game variety show in which 100 individuals claiming to have the strongest physique compete to find the strongest “body”, was nominated for Best Variety Show Director (Jang Ho-gi) and Best Variety Show. Staying true to the essence of the program, which selects only one person with the most perfect physique, “Physical: 100” achieved the No.1 spot in the Netflix Global TOP 10 TV Shows (Non-English) category, breaking new ground in Korean variety show history and receiving enthusiastic love.
In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” was nominated in the Best Documentary Series category. “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” examining the chilling true stories of four Korean leaders claiming to be prophets exposes the dark side of unquestioning belief. Episodes like “JMS, God’s Brides”, “Five Oceans, God and 32 Dead Bodies”, “The Baby Garden, On the Way to the Heaven” and “The Man Who Became God of Manmin” conveyed the themes with weighty significance.
