From PD and cast’s withdrawals to reaching the lowest rating this year, “2 Days & 1 Night” is facing a crisis again

Apart from the low performance in ratings, the recent announcement of Ravi and Bang Geul-yi PD’s withdrawals is making fans worry about the future of this show.

KBS2’s entertainment program “2 Days & 1 Night” will face a new change again. 3 months after the departure of Kim Seon-ho and the joining of Na In-woo, producer and singer Ravi will also drop out of the show. In this situation, the performance of “2 Days & 1 Night”, which used to record high ratings of over 10%, has continued to decline and fell down to one-digit ratings. Therefore, many viewers are raising concerns for the future of the show.

On April 22nd, “2 Days & 1 Night” announced that Ravi would leave the cast of the program to fulfill his military service duty. One day before the production team’s official position was released, Ravi said through VLive, “I recently went on my last trip with ‘2 Days & 1 Night’. Sooner or later, my last trip will be revealed. I wanted to directly tell my fans about this before they read the articles”.

Earlier this month, the departure of the main producer PD Bang Geul-yi was also reported. The reason why Bang Geul-yi PD left the show has not known exactly since it’s her personal issue. However, it is said to be a health problem.

This is the most regrettable news to fans since Bang Geul-yi PD was the female PD who revived “2 Days & 1 Night” when it was temporarily ended the program due to various controversies that occurred in the middle of the previous season. Centering on the original member Kim Jong-min, she created a team of “gentle members” and made “2 Days & 1 Night” become a kind of entertainment show that all family members can watch. At the KBS Entertainment Awards in 2020 and 2021, “2 Days & 1 Night” surpassed 10% in viewership and won Program of the Year, making it a strong powerhouse among entertainment programs aired on Sunday.

The reason why viewers are worried about their departure is that “2 Days & 1 Night” ratings continued to fall after the news of PD Bang Geul-yi‘s dropout. “2 Days & 1 Night”, which recorded 11.3% on April 3rd, recorded 10.8% and 9.9% after that. Episode 122, which recently aired, recorded the lowest viewership rating this year with 9.4%. This is the first time since November last year.

In particular, these episodes made viewers feel more regret as actress Han Ga-in, Yeon Jung-hoon‘s wife, participated as a guest and appeared together with Yeon Jung-hoon for the first time after marriage. As the love story and sweet appearances of Han Ga-in and Yeon Jung-hoon are drawing much attention, it seems that the fierce competition and chemistry of “2 Days & 1 Night” did not achieve the expected results.

In February, “2 Days & 1 Night” tried to change the atmosphere by putting Na In-woo in the vacant place of Kim Seon-ho, who voluntarily dropped out due to controversy over his private life with his ex-girlfriend. “2 Days & 1 Night”, which cruised to the point of being called “Na In-woo Effect” by surpassing 15%, is now showing signs of instability ahead of another turning point.

PD Lee Jung-kyu is the new captain of the shaky “2 Days & 1 Night”. Joining KBS in 2011, he directed “Gag Concert”, “Into the World of Ssireum”, “Not Soccer or Baseball” and “Music Bank”. He is scheduled to have the first filming with 5 members except Ravi on April 29th. It remains to be seen whether the reorganized “2 Days & 1 Night” will cruise in the new wind or shake while facing headwinds, but it is clear that the production team will be more concerned to catch falling viewership ratings.
