BTS’s V followed then unfollowed BIGBANG’s T.O.P on Instagram, causing a stir among fans. The same happened once with BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
BTS’s V recently surprised fans when he suddenly followed the Instagram account of BIGBANG’s T.O.P. Before this, V only followed the Instagram accounts of the remaining 6 members of BTS. In response to V following T.O.P despite the fact that the two are not openly friends, netizens have divided reactions. Some fans are against V’s move, while others respect his privacy.
The reason why some fans are not happy to see V following T.O.P is because of T.O.P’s controversies. In 2017, due to drug use, T.O.P was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. He also received a fine of 12 thousand won. Therefore, fans worried that V being involved with or potentially being friends with T.O.P will hurt his image and that T.O.P can be a negative influence for V.
At the same time, many fans showed their support and respect for V’s action, claiming that fans should only focus on V as an artist instead of his personal life and circle of friends. Fans even trended the hashtag #FreeTaehyung to defend V.
After following T.O.P, V unfollowed the account quickly after. Many fans think that V just mistakenly followed T.O.P. The same thing happened at the end of 2021 when V was caught following then unfollowing BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
At the time, V indirectly confirmed that he only followed Jennie by mistake by comparing to fans that Instagram is a “scary app”. However, V was later embroiled in dating rumors with Jennie, sparking a theory that he didn’t hit the follow button on Jennie’s profile by accident.
