Kpop girl groups with 4 members are often madly successful, with prime examples being 2NE1, BLACKPINK, and aespa.
A recent topic titled “4 members is the ideal number for Kpop girl groups” has been spreading across various Korean online forums. Many netizens are seen agreeing with the original poster, pointing out that 4-member groups like 2NE1, BLACKPINK, and aespa are the best combination.
Under this topic, the general opinion seems to be that having less members is better than more, and that 4 is a nice balance for girl groups. According to netizens, in 4-member girl groups, every member will be able to shine with their own area of expertise, leading to each member gaining their own gang of fans. BLACKPINK is the prime example to this, they said, mentioning that each of the 4 members has a staggering number of solo stans, which can even rival group stans.
Alongside BLACKPINK and aespa, other girl groups with 4 members like 2NE1, SISTAR, and Brave Girls all made it big, with clear roles assigned to each member and the public being able to identify the entire group.
Fans of more crowded groups also expressed that they feel less is more. According to them, the public will take a long time to remember all the members of say, groups like TWICE and SNSD. In addition, crowded groups often see cases of some members being way more popular than others.
Of course, this is not a wholly unanimous opinion, and some believe that a 4 member lineup will become an issue if one ever decided to leave their group. It will be harder to make up for the space left behind, so around 6-7 members like IVE or Nmixx would be more ideal, these people stated.
