For Lee Seung Gi, who even shaved his head…The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism eventually did “this”

A bill requiring entertainment companies to disclose the details of profit settlement to their artists at least once a year has passed the National Assembly Standing Committee.

On April 21st, the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee held a plenary session to vote on an amendment to the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act.

Like the “singer Lee Seung Gi incident”, the agencies were required to disclose the details of profit settlement to the celebrities so that the celebrities do not suffer damages from the agencies’ opaque accounting.

The amendment also strengthened the requirements for protecting the rights and interests of young celebrities, such as lowering the upper limit of working hours.

In addition, popular culture and arts businesses were required to designate a person in charge of youth protection to help guarantee the human rights of young celebrities.

Meanwhile, Lee Seung Gi is engaged in a legal dispute with his former agency Hook Entertainment (Hook) regarding the fact that he had not been properly settled for 18 years of music revenue.

In November last year, Lee Seung Gi sent proof to Hook, saying that he had not received the profits for 137 songs and advertising fees.

Hook unilaterally paid Lee Seung Gi 5 billion won to resolve the unpaid bills. Afterwards, Lee Seung Gi sued 4 former and current executives, including Hook’s CEO Kwon Jin Young, for embezzlement and fraud.

Lee Seung Gi became a hot topic by appearing with his shaved head at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards on December 31st last year. In particular, he recently made his first public appearance after getting involved in the dispute with his former agency, drawing keen attention.
