Fans voice opposition to the upcoming, new feature “Weverse DM” on Weverse

Fans believe “Weverse DM” can harm artists’ mental health and propose others changes to be tended to.

Weverse is current the most well-known artist-to-fan communication platform that allows fans to comment under their favorite artists’ posts and join their livestreams. Recently, Weverse added a new pay-to-use feature called “Weverse DM”. Fans can send direct messages to their idols with ease.

In reality, the new feature is not too welcomed among fans. They believe it can have negative impact on idols’ mental health, as practically anyone who pays can send messages to any idol. People with ill intentions, or anti-fans, can take advantage of the feature to provoke, defame, or offend idols and artists.

Fans and platform users actively oppose to the new feature

Recently, in a livestream of two BTS members RM and V, they spoke up about receiving strange and inappropriate comments. Jung Kook also turned off the comment session when he went live. Fans are urging for better translation quality for subtitles and prevention of negative contents that pose risks to artists on the platform, other than a potentially risky feature.

Previously, Bubble and Universe also have a feature that allows paid users to send text messages to artists and receive the same messages from them. In addition, Weverse is planning on applying AI to automatically check text messages and supervise published contents to protect artists.
