It’s finally the season of year-end music awards and festivals.
On Nov 8th, the 2022 Genie Music Awards was held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon. The award ceremony was held offline for the first time in three years since 2019. With prominent nominees competing for the highest awards, many paid attention to who the Grand Prize winner will be.
The 2022 Genie Music Awards’ Grand Prizes are divided into three categories: Singer of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. The winner will be determined based on the combined results of 60% of the digital sales and 40% of the judge screening.
First of all, this year’s “Song Of The Year” was given to trot singer Lim Young Woong‘s “Our Blues.” Following Lim Young Woong is NCT Dream as they received “Album of the Year” and “Artist of the Year”. NCT Dream released their full album “Glitch Mode” in May this year, and the repackaged album “Beatbox” in May, having a wonderful year with busy schedules. Fans were even happier because they could not predict that NCT Dream would receive those Grand Prizes.
No wonder, this year, there were so many great songs that it was not an exaggeration to be called “the heyday of K-pop.” The lineup of the Grand Prize nominees alone was impressive. Candidates for this year’s “Album of the Year” included Psy’s “Psy 9th,” BLACKPINK‘s “BORN PINK,” SEVENTEEN‘s “Face the Sun,” Lim Young Woong’s “IM HERO,” (G)I-DLE‘s “I NEVER DIE”, Tae Yeon’s “INVU,” Kim Ho Jung’s “PANORAMA,” BTS’s “Proof” and Red Velvet‘s “The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm.”
With such outstanding rivals, even fans could not easily predict the Grand Prize winner.
Fans celebrated with great joy when NCT Dream won two awards, including “Artist of the Year” award and “Album of the Year” award. NCT Dream thanked their fandom ‘NCTzen’ with all the glory.
Meanwhile, NCT Dream entered the music industry with their debut song “Chewing Gum” in August 2016. They showed tremendous growth every year and released hit songs such as “My First and Last” and “BOOM.” In addition, NCT Dream recently held a grand concert from September 8th to 9th at the Olympic Main Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The concert, which was also broadcast live online, attracted a total of 135,000 viewers. NCT Dream’s concert will also be released as a movie on Oct 30th.
