Brazil midfielder Fabinho has unexpectedly gone viral after shocking images of him covered in blood during Brazil’s World Cup 2026 match against Morocco spread rapidly across social media.
The incident occurred during Brazil’s opening match against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in the United States on June 13. Fabinho entered the game at halftime, replacing Casemiro, but quickly found himself at the center of attention due to an unusual on-field moment.
In the 63rd minute, television cameras captured the former Liverpool midfielder walking toward the sideline with blood visibly streaming around his mouth. It remains unclear exactly when Fabinho suffered the injury, but medical staff rushed onto the field to assist the 32-year-old player.
Images that followed showed blood stains across Fabinho’s iconic yellow Brazil jersey. Medical personnel cleaned his face, changed his shirt, and placed cotton in his nose to stop the bleeding before allowing him to continue playing.
Under football regulations, any player who is bleeding must temporarily leave the field for treatment before being cleared to return by the referee. Although Fabinho initially appeared frustrated that Brazil had to briefly play with one fewer player, he soon regained his composure and was seen smiling as he walked toward the touchline.
It was this surprisingly relaxed expression — paired with his blood-covered face — that quickly turned Fabinho into a viral sensation online.
One social media user joked, “Fabinho looks like he turned into the Joker.”
Another wrote, “He would make the perfect vampire.”
A third fan humorously commented, “His mouth is covered in blood and he’s still smiling. Fabinho really said, ‘Why so serious?’”
Many viewers also described the atmosphere at MetLife Stadium as a “real battlefield,” with both Brazil and Morocco engaged in an intensely physical contest throughout the match.
After receiving treatment, Fabinho returned to the pitch and resumed play without issue. The incident highlighted the fierce and hard-fought nature of the encounter between the two sides.
On the football side, Morocco stunned Brazil by opening the scoring in the 21st minute through Ismael Saibari. Brazil equalized in the 32nd minute thanks to a brilliant finish from Vinicius Junior.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti introduced Fabinho at the start of the second half in place of Casemiro to strengthen the midfield after Brazil struggled against Morocco’s aggressive pressing system. The Saudi Pro League midfielder was praised for bringing greater stability to the center of the pitch and making several key defensive interventions.
However, Brazil failed to find a winning goal in the remaining minutes. The two teams ultimately settled for a 1-1 draw in their opening Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
