Expert selects the Top 5 Korean girl groups of all generations, but TWICE is missing?

Across the years, there have been many successful Kpop girl groups, but 5 names stand out to this expert.

It’s hard to determine which Kpop girl group is the best, as many elements have to be taken into account, from popularity, sales, impact, to artistry. However, this expert revealed his Top 5 girl group picks based on big data.

In particular, on the KBS Cool FM program “Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show”, MC Park Myung Soo interviewed big data expert Jeon Minki about top girl groups in the Korean showbiz. In response to such a question, Jeon Minki explained that he can rank the Top 5 Korean girl groups using big data, instead of popularity.

According to Jeon Minki, coming in 5th place is none other than the YG girl group 2NE1, who became a top star almost immediately after their debut. At the time, 2NE1 stood out with their girl crush and almost alien-like concept, and their megahit “I Am The Best” remains iconic even today.

Despite having been active for ages, the influence of 2NE1 members, including CL, Dara, Park Bom, and Minzy, is still as astounding as ever. Their surprising performance at the 2022 Coachella basically took the world by storm.

Next, SNSD was mentioned for the 4th place, who earned the title of “Nations’ Girl Group” in their early years. All members of the group are household names in Korea, and topics regarding SNSD and individual members have never died down.

After years of hiatus, SNSD recently reunited in their 15th anniversary album “FOREVER 1”. Of course, with their resounding impact, SNSD are still as highly-discussed as during the peak of the group’s career.

Meanwhile, another SM Entertainment group, aespa, assumes the 3rd position. Despite debuting rather recently in 2020, the girl group has already established their name in the Korean entertainment industry.

aespa’s songs like “Black Mamba”, “Next Level”, and “Savage” have all become huge hits both in and outside of Korea, and the group is expected to follow their seniors’ steps and make new Kpop records and histories.

While there have been a lot of netizens complaining about IVE’s talents, the draw and explosive impact of IVE is simply undeniable. Ever since their debut last December, the girl group has been dropping one hit after another, with “Eleven” and “Love Dive” achieving huge successes both in and outside of Korea.

Finally, on the throne sits BLACKPINK, who have proven themselves as top faces in various realms, from music, fashion, to even acting. In addition, each member, including Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, all have their own share of influence.

After 2 years of no group releases, BLACKPINK will finally return with a pre-release single this August, followed by a full album in September. The group’s new songs are expected one again make headlines and top charts all around the world.

While the ranking is said to be based on big data analysis, many netizens reading this were perplexed, as outstanding groups like Red Velvet, TWICE, Mamamoo, and ITZY never made an appearance.
