This actress was the nation’s younger sister, but it’s hard to find her in a Korean work these days

Actress Shim Eun-kyung debuted in the 2003 drama “Dae Jang Geum”. Afterwards, she appeared in major works such as “The Legend”, “Hwang Jini” and made her face known.

In particular, she became a box-office actress with movies “Sunny” and “Masquerade”, which she appeared in when she was a high school student. She once again succeeded at the box office with “Miss Granny”, in which she took the solo lead role after becoming an adult.

Shim Eun-kyung is considered to have built a unique career among actresses of her age in her early 20s. Unfortunately, other works in which she appeared after becoming an adult were not successful at the box office.

After the 2018 film “The Princess and the Matchmaker”, Shim Eun-kyung started to be active in Japan. She won the Best Actress award at the Japan Academy Film Prize for the 2019 movie “The Journalist”.

What’s surprising is that Shim Eun-kyung did not grow up or study in Japan. Her passion for acting alone helped her become the first Korean to win the Best Actress award at the above-mentioned awards ceremony.

Shim Eun-kyung gained a lot of attention in Japan thanks to “The Journalist”. She has continued her activities by appearing in works such as movies “Blue Hour”, “A Garden of Camellias” and the drama “7 Secretaries”.

In Korea, Shim Eun-kyung starred in the 2020 tvN drama “Money Game”. With the film “Starlight Falls” of director Choi Kook-hee, who directed “Default”, she is expected to return to Korean works after a long time, drawing welcome from many fans.
