The hidden meaning behind “The Glory final scene, as interpreted by movie reviewer

On the 11th, Youtuber Minhotaurs, who often makes drama and movie reviews, uploaded on his channel a new video titled “Interpretation of the ending in the final episode of 《The Glory》 (this is why the weather suddenly changes)”. This video attracted keen attention as soon as it was released and has exceeded 1 million views as of 11:10 a.m (KST) on March 14th.

Minhotaus began by saying “The story of ‘The Glory’ concludes with a tightly closed ending, as the revenge plan that Moon Dong Eun prepared with her whole life leads to the downfall of her school violence perpetrators”. He then said, “Though it looks like viewers are given no room to interpret such an epic and perfect story in another way, there are some possible interpretations when it comes to the ending scene of episode 16.”

He mentioned the ending scene where Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) and Joo Yeo Jeong (Lee Do Hyun) get out of a car and enter Jisan Prison where Kang Young Cheon (Lee Moo Saeng) is imprisoned. Regarding this scene, Minhotaurs said, “The BGM even gives off a sacred feeling. At this point, when they look up at the sky, the clear weather suddenly gives way to clouds that quickly move in. The light shining on them disappears and darkness comes.”

He then went on to explain the “sky” in this scene in detail. The Youtuber said, “Generally, the sky is often used as a metaphor for God, holiness, or heaven. In particular, many works often depict the sky with bright light when portraying a divine figure or a character who is friendly with God. However, the ending scene of ‘The Glory’ shows an exact opposite image to this cliché. The sky, which is originally bright, suddenly turns dark, and the light shining on the two main characters disappears”, adding “This can indicate that there is a ‘hell’ contrary to heaven waiting in front of the two when they arrive at that place.”

Minhotaurs continued, “The sacred music that came out in this scene was similar to the one that appeared in episode 4 of Part 1”, referring to the scene where Moon Dong Eun appeared in front of the bullies who were gathering in the school’s gym to announce the beginning of her revenge. He added, “The fact that the same BGM from such a scene in episode 4 is played again in this scene of the final episode implies that the situation in this final scene is similar to the situation in episode 4 when Moon Dong Eun appeared in front of the group led by Park Yeon Jin (Lim Ji Yeon).”

Minhotaurs explained, “To summarize, the ‘hell’ metaphor in the last scene can be interpreted with two meanings. First, Kang Yeong Cheon is the ‘hell’ of Joo Yeo Jeong’s life, and they are no longer scared or reluctant in front of that ‘hell’. Second, it can be seen as the long-awaited ‘hell’ for the killer Kang Yeong Cheon. Joo Yeo Jeong and Moon Dong Eun open the gate of hell to prison, which they couldn’t face in the past but is now a comfortable and enjoyable place where they can punish Kang Yeong Cheon.”

In response, many netizens agreed and added comments, such as “The meaning of the sky turning dark and cloudy could also be interpreted as ‘the gods are closing their eyes for a moment to allow the two’s revenge’.”
