“Doctor Cha” Lee Seo Yeon Shares Warm Moments with “Parents” Uhm Jung Hwa and Kim Byung Chul on Set
Lee Seo Yeon expressed her amazement while working alongside Uhm Jung Hwa and Kim Byung Chul in “Doctor Cha”.
On JTBC’s weekend drama “Doctor Cha”, which ended on June 4th, Lee Seo Yeon played Seo Yi Rang, Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul) and Cha Jung Sook’s (Uhm Jung Hwa) daughter who secretly prepares for the art college entrance exam.
During a recent meeting with Xsportsnews, Lee Seo Yeon recalled the moment she first met Uhm Jung Hwa and Kim Byung Chul, “I tried to approach them first. They were such important presences to me.”
She continued, “I was nervous just standing next to them. I wondered if I could call Uhm Jung Hwa sunbaenim ‘mom,’ so I asked, ‘Can I call you mom?’ She smiled brightly and said, ‘Of course.’ When I cautiously asked Kim Byung Chul sunbaenim, ‘Can I call you dad?’ he replied, ‘I’m Byung Chul, it doesn’t matter if you call me sunbaenim or dad,’ and we all burst into laughter.”
“Those were our first encounters,” Lee Seo Yeon smiled and said, “It was the day we took a family photo that would be used as a prop during filming. The atmosphere lightened as we had that conversation. Then Kim Byung Chul sunbaenim suggested that we all have a meal together before the family photo shoot. I was wondering how I could fit in, but I was grateful that they invited me. I was touched.”
Furthermore, she expressed gratitude, “Actually, I had never been to such a gathering before, and I was called first without being excluded for being young or a rookie. We had casual drinks and talked to each other. As we became more familiar and closer, we started filming with more delighted feelings. I think if we hadn’t had such fun conversations prepared by the sunbaenims, my acting might have been more stiff.”
While filming “Doctor Cha”, Lee Seo Yeon said she empathized with the emotional changes of Seo Yi Rang more than anyone else, “In the drama, Yi Rang changes twice. After her father tells her not to prepare for the art college entrance exam, she turns hostile. That situation is something anyone can understand, and then, when Yi Rang finds out about her father’s affair, you may wonder how she suddenly becomes mature.”
She continued, “I thought about what stages Yi Rang went through in her growth process. While going through her time alone, I acted with the thought, ‘What I can do is protect my mom’.”
After appearing in “Doctor Cha”, Lee Seo Yeon said, “Many people recognize me now. When I was young, I grew up with my extended family on Jeju Island, and when I came back to Seoul, I mainly stayed with my relatives. I have a close relationship with both my extended family and relatives. Usually, my grandparents go to bed early, but they stayed up late to watch the drama for me, and I’m grateful for their support.”
Lee Seo Yeon reflected on the significance of “Doctor Cha” in her life, saying, “Doctor Cha was truly an opportunity to meet wonderful people and it was a valuable experience for me. It made me think a lot about whether I would be able to have such an experience again. That’s why it will remain a more precious work for me.”
