Director Hwang Dong Hyuk reports good news about “Squid Game 2” production
Netflix’s “Squid Game” director Hwang Dong Hyuk announced that the filming of Season 2 will start in July.
On February 24th, director Hwang Dong Hyuk took the stage at the 21st Director’s Cut Awards as an award presenter.
He said, “‘Squid Game’ Season 2 is in the free production step”, adding “The first shoot will take place this July. We are completing the casting process”.
Earlier last year, Director Hwang announced that the production of Season 2 had been confirmed through Netflix’s SNS account, saying “Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) returns. The Front Man (Lee Byung Hun) will also return.”
He continued, “The man in the suit with ddakji (Gong Yoo) might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young Hee’s boyfriend, Cheol Su”, adding “Join us once more for a whole new round”, raising drama fans’ expectations.
In September of the same year, he also mentioned Season 2 at the commemorative meeting for “Squid Game”’s win at the 74th Primetime Emmy Award held at the Grand Ballroom of Westin Josun Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. The director said, “My next plan is to shoot ‘Squid Game’ Season 2. I think the drama will come out next year or within three years from now. We are still reviewing that. I think it will take about two years before its release. I’m currently writing the script.”
Regarding actresses Lee Yoo Mi and Jung Ho Yeon whose characters died in Season 1, director Hwang said, “I killed their characters too easily without knowing that they would be so well-loved. I’m sorry. I’m thinking of reviving them.”
“Squid Game” is a Netflix series that depicts the story of people who risks their lives participating in a survival game to win the prize money of 45.6 billion won.
