After winning the Emmy Award for “Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series”, Hwang added to fans’ expectations by talking about returning to season 2 while expressing his acceptance speech. Director Hwang said at a press conference, “The Emmy Awards are not just a one-time event, but a story that contains the desire to come back through the next work”.

Director Hwang said he was writing “Squid Game” season 2, stating that “It is hard to say much. I’m in the middle of doing it,” he said. “To make a big difference, Sung Ki-hoon was a child-like person who made many mistakes and was naive in season 1”. In season 2, he elaborated, “The big difference is that he returns as a heavier person who is likely to do something serious”.
