david huang death

The entertainment industry has been left in shock following news of the passing of veteran singer-songwriter David Huang, whose death was only recently announced by his family despite occurring earlier this month.

On June 15, China Times reported that David Huang, one of the most influential figures in Mandopop, had passed away at the age of 62. According to his family, Huang died on June 3 at his older sister’s home in Hawaii, United States. However, the exact cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.

Vicky, Huang’s longtime girlfriend and manager of 31 years, was reportedly devastated by the sudden loss. Speaking to local media, she tearfully shared that Huang had traveled to Hawaii earlier this year to visit family. The couple had remained in close contact, and he had recently proposed to her successfully. They had even begun arranging time to officially register their marriage. Tragically, before they could take that step together, Huang passed away far from home.

According to Vicky, Huang’s family concealed his death from her. More than 10 days after his passing, his sister still reportedly refused to clarify the cause of death or provide an official death certificate. Vicky also claimed that Huang’s two sisters in the United States issued a legal statement through an attorney, asserting that they were the sole legal heirs to both his estate and music copyrights. This reportedly left Vicky deeply upset, as funeral arrangements had not yet taken place and the circumstances surrounding Huang’s death remained unclear.

Because many questions remain about how Huang died, authorities have reportedly launched an investigation. Vicky said she plans to travel to Hong Kong with legal counsel to meet Huang’s mother and younger brother in hopes of uncovering what truly happened in Hawaii. “They are trying to shut me out of matters related to him. His death at his sister’s house feels strange and unusual,” she stated.

According to sources close to the singer, Huang had a serious history of cardiovascular illness. In 2022, he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after suffering acute heart failure, which caused breathing difficulties, declining kidney function, and severe swelling throughout his body. However, whether his passing was related to heart disease remains unknown pending an autopsy conducted by U.S. authorities.

Born in 1964, David Huang entered the entertainment industry in 1988 and became regarded as a contemporary rock icon in the Chinese-language music scene. Over more than three decades on stage, he produced numerous hit songs that became karaoke staples, including You Make Me Drunk, Love Breaks Everyone’s Heart, and other beloved classics widely recognized by audiences across Asia.

Beyond music, Huang also expanded into acting. He received dual nominations at the prestigious Golden Bell Awards for Best New Performer and Best Original Song for The Outlaw Doctor, a Taiwan-Vietnam co-production starring Lien Binh Phat and Janine Chang. The achievement made Huang the oldest nominee in history to compete in the “rookie actor” category at the renowned television awards.
