“Learn from Song Hye Kyo” Critic Kim Gap Soo’s Criticism towards Park Eun Bin: Outspoken or Rude?

Poet/cultural critic Kim Gap Soo criticized the acceptance speech of actress Park Eun Bin at the 59th Baeksang Arts Award.

The May 1st broadcast of “Jung Young Jin, Choi Wook’s Maebul Show” talked about the topic of the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards.

On the broadcast, Kim Gap Soo criticized some celebrities for their acceptance speeches at the awards ceremony. He said, “It’s now a given that our speeches end with ‘thank you’ because we struggle with delivering speeches. There’s no other way. About 80-90% of the acceptance speeches end with ‘thank you to this person, that person, etc.’”

When Choi Wook commented, “But they want to show their sincerity”. Kim Gap Soo replied, “Shouldn’t sincerity be expressed privately?”, adding “The three-hour award ceremony itself is also a program.”

Expressing his disappointment, Kim Gap Soo said, “The celebrities have lots of things about themselves to say, such as what they are thankful for, the difficulties they faced in their work, their future plans, and so on.”

Mentioning Daesang winner Park Eun Bin, Kim Gap Soo said, “I understand that some people struggle with giving speeches because they have been like that since they were young. I will not talk about that but Park Eun Bin, who won the Grand Prize (Daesang), is a veteran actress, and she will continue to do well in the future. However, she kept heavily and wiping her nose while receiving the award.”

He continued, “In any situation, not just at an awards ceremony, one should not trigger emotions in front of others. She’s a great actress so I’m saying this with affection. However, when Park Eun Bin was announced as the winner, she bowed more than 30 times before coming onto the stage. The actress kept bowing. What kind of etiquette is that? As the fanfare played, she began to cry.”

Kim Gap Soo added, “You should keep a sense of dignity. Because you’re not 18 years old anymore and you’re already over 30”, adding “Learn from Song Hye Kyo. I don’t intend to disparage the value of winning the Grand Prize.”

Choi Wook explained, “We’re saying this in case of misunderstandings, but if you watch the broadcast three weeks ago, we supported Song Hye Kyo although our favorite is Park Eun Bin”.

Kim Gap Soo shared, “She’s an excellent actress”. He then advised, “Just say what you think at every awards ceremony. I understand that you must have been very happy at that moment, there were many people watching so you shouldn’t cry. All winners bowed to express gratitude. However, some people may think bowing repeatedly is polite but they are bowing too much. Things were not like that in the past.”

Lastly, he said, “Tang Wei and Song Hye Kyo’s behaviors are textbooks, so please look at them”.

Park Eun Bin won the Grand Prize (Television) at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards held on April 28th. The actress shed tears as soon as her name was called as the winner. Going up the stage, she sobbed and went speechless for a while before delivering her acceptance speech.

Kim Gap Soo is known for his outspoken comments. While his remarks about Park Eun Bin have garnered attention, they have also been criticized for being rude.

While the public congratulated Park Eun Bin on her achievement, it is unfair to criticize her for not being able to control her emotions. Moreover, Kim Gap Soo’s comments comparing Park Eun Bin to Song Hye Kyo and Tang Wei have been criticized as impolite, even from the perspective of a critic.
