Controversy over the love line in “Twenty Five Twenty One”? 77% of netizens: “Please distinguish between reality and the virtual world”

Amid controversy over the love line between Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) and Baek Yi-jin (Nam Joo-hyuk), the leads of “Twenty Five Twenty One”, a survey found that about 8 out of 10 netizens think there is no problem.

The portal site Nate conducted a poll asking for opinions on the controversy over the love line between a minor and an adult in tvN’s drama “Twenty Five Twenty One” from March 14th to March 24th through the entertainment POLL category.

A total of 3,669 netizens participated in this vote. As a result, 2,836 people (about 77%) expressed their opinion that there is no problem. Only about 23% answered that they were “concerned” about the love line.

Netizens, who are in the position that dramas should only be viewed as dramas, said, “It seems like people want to create controversy over nothing”, “I don’t know why people are looking at it crookedly when the content is flowing naturally in the drama’s development” and “They should know how to distinguish between reality and the virtual world.”

On the other hand, netizens who found the love line problematic and disturbing showed reactions such as “Romance between an adult and a minor is such a turn off” and “If you are a proper adult, you should keep a distance from minors and wait until they become adults to act on your feelings.”

Previously, the love line and skinship between Na Hee-do, a 19-year-old high school student, and Baek Yi-jin, a 23-year-old reporter, were portrayed in “Twenty Five Twenty One”.

Some netizens have raised the issue that romance between an adult and a minor, who is not fully developed emotionally, is reminiscent of “grooming sex crime” (inflicting sexual assault after psychologically controlling minors by establishing a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with them).

Meanwhile, tvN is scheduled to air episode 13 of “Twenty Five Twenty One” at 9:10 pm KST on March 26th. Episode 12, which was broadcast on March 20th, recorded an average nationwide rating of 10.7%, according to Nielsen Korea.
