On July 13, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung took to social media to celebrate the completion of the opening week of her play, The Merchant of Venice, alongside a collection of behind-the-scenes photos and videos. “The first performance week is over! Every time I put on a production, it feels such a waste to watch the time pass,” she wrote.

Borrowing a line from her character Portia, she added: “If I may borrow Portia’s words, ‘I wish I could attach weights to time so it would walk more slowly.’ I’m grateful to share such precious moments.” She concluded by expressing her determination to make the most of the remaining performances. “With just over a month of performances left, I want to enjoy every minute and every second. I’ll see you on stage.”

The photos showed Sooyoung standing alone on the theater stage after the audience had left, reflecting on the production. Other images captured her smiling alongside veteran actors Park Geun Hyung and Shin Goo, who also star in the play.

She also revealed thoughtful gifts sent by Girls' Generation bandmate Yuri and actress Park So Dam, highlighting the support she has received from friends and colleagues during the production.

Fans flooded the comments with encouraging messages, praising her performance and wishing the cast success through the play’s final show.

Sooyoung’s update comes shortly after news emerged that she and actor Jung Kyung Ho had ended their relationship after 14 years together. The couple had long been regarded as one of South Korea’s most beloved celebrity pairs. Since the breakup became public, Sooyoung has continued to immerse herself in work, maintaining a busy schedule across both theater and film.

She is currently portraying Portia in The Merchant of Venice and is also preparing for the release of her upcoming action-comedy film, OK! MADAM: BON VOYAGE, which is set to premiere on August 12.

Rather than dwelling on recent personal changes, Choi Sooyoung is channeling her energy into her craft. With acclaimed performances in The Merchant of Venice and the upcoming release of OK! MADAM: BON VOYAGE, the actress is embracing a new chapter in her career—one performance, and one precious moment, at a time.
