On September 22, YouTube program Go So-young’s Pubstaurant featured Choi Gwi-hwa and fellow actor Park Ji-hwan, where a story about Choi Gwi-hwa’s generosity resurfaced.
According to actress Go So-young, a female staff member once fell into financial hardship while battling cancer and supporting her mother. Upon learning of her situation, Choi Gwi-hwa personally covered the costs of her surgery, helping her return to work and regain her health.
Choi Gwi-hwa humbly downplayed the gesture, saying: “One day I noticed she looked unwell. When I found out about her circumstances, I simply did what I could to help. Just the other day, she messaged me to say she’s healthier now and working hard again.”
Colleague Park Ji-hwan also praised Choi Gwi-hwa’s character, noting that he often buys food and clothing to share with juniors instead of accepting free items from friends’ businesses. “He’s always generous and takes good care of people around him,” Park Ji-hwan said.

Despite his fierce on-screen roles in films like The Outlaws and the recent tvN drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, Choi Gwi-hwa has shown himself to be a caring family man and friend. At home, the father of three describes himself as a communicative, non-authoritarian dad. He shared that one of his sons once wrote him a touching letter, thanking him for “always starting conversations.”
Currently, Choi Gwi-hwa is playing Prince Jesan in tvN’s Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, which premiered on September 23. He will also appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Turbid Stream, set to release on September 26.
