Ravi, a member of VIXX, was recently suspected of evading military service. On January 12th, Ravi’s agency GROOVL1N released a statement regarding the scandal, saying, “It is only right to give a statement as quickly as possible, but since the problem is related to military duty, we think it is only appropriate to first find out the details and then give thorough explanations after.” They also promised to provide exact details in a separate post in the future.
Currently, the joint investigation team of the prosecution and the Military Manpower Administration suspected that Ravi was exempted from military service by pretending to suffer from epilepsy through a group of brokers.
As the investigation is being carried out, actor Chae Jong Hyeop, who recently starred in ENA’s “Unlock My Boss”, confessed that he was exempted from military service due to epilepsy.
In detail, In an series wrap-up interview with Star News on the 17th, Chae Jong Hyeop shared that he is currently being exempted from military enlistment for showing symptoms of epilepsy.
He said, “At the age of 20, I started to collapse in Durban, South Africa. I was taken to the emergency room and there I was told to undergo a full-scale examination. I was judged 4th grade. In order to go to active duty, I was told to come back after I fully recovered, so I said ‘I understand’.”
He continued, “Then time passed and I have been receiving steady treatment. Four years later, I was told to undergo a physical examination again, and I went to the hospital to have an EEG test. I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I found something wrong with my cranial nerves in the brain waves and submitted a medical record to the Military Manpower Administration, so I was diagnosed with a grade 5 in 2018.”
He also shared that when he asked the doctor of a cure and the progression of the disorder, the repsonse was that, “a characteristic feature of those with the possibility of relapse was those who felt the symptoms first. However, I tend to feel the symptoms first, so I am still taking medicine… I want to do what I love to do, as long as I don’t get away with acting, and that’s the biggest reason, and I want to do as much as I can, so that’s why I’m here.”
