Can 2 Completed Films Starring Lee Sun-kyun Premiere Amid The Actor’s Drug Scandal?

Similar to Yoo Ah-in’s case, Lee Sun-kyun is causing several projects to suffer indefinite release delays

Filmed from October 2020 to February 2021, “Project Silence” is a movie about people isolated on an airport bridge on the verge of collapse in heavy fog struggling to survive an unexpected series of disasters.

“Project Silence” is highly anticipated as was invited to the Non-Competitive Midnight Screening at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.  However, it is not known whether this 20-billion-won masterpiece will get a chance to premiere due to Lee Sun-kyun’s ongoing drug scandal.

The next work is “The Land of Happiness”, starring Lee Sun-kyun and Jo Jung-suk. Director by Chu Chang-min, this film centers around a soldier (Lee Sun-kyun) getting caught up in an incident that shook modern Korean history and a lawyer struggling to save the soldier. Filming wrapped up in January 2022, and the movie is almost ready to be released after post-production processing.

In addition to the two completed films, Lee Sun-kyun is putting the mystery thriller drama “No Way Out” in which he was scheduled to work with Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu on alert right before its first shoot.

Lee Sun-kyun was supposed to play the center role but he voluntarily dropped out of the project on October 23rd after his drug scandal broke out on the 19th. Lee Sun-kyun left a big loss and “No Way Out” team is hurriedly looking for another actor to replace him to proceed with the filming as scheduled. As a result, they sent an offer to Cho Jin-woong and the actor is reportedly reviewing the script.

In fact, experts believe that works starring Lee Sun-kyun may not be released due to the seriousness of his drug case and its significant damage to the film industry.

Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun attended the police on the 28th as a suspect. Although he tested negative in the simple drug test, the police sent his urine and hair to the National Forensic Agency for a thorough examination. Results are expected to come out within a month.
