On November 28th (local time), BTS held a press conference to commemorate the PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE LA Concert held at Sofi Stadium in LA, USA.

On this day, the members were asked about their Grammy Award nomination. Suga said, “We’re bewildered to be nominated for two consecutive years. We’re also excited and looking forward to being nominated for the awards ceremony we’ve been watching since we were young,” he said adding, “Of course (winning the main award) will not be easy. It’s not easy to be nominated, let alone to win the award. We’re still grateful that we still have barriers to surpass and for us to challenge ourselves, and I hope we can surpass them.”

Member Jin also said, “The only award we haven’t received yet is the Grammy. That doesn’t mean that I’m not happy with other awards. I just  want to be able to receive it once since we couldn’t receive it yet.” Suga added, “There’s a Korean proverb that says, ‘There’s no tree that doesn’t fall after 10 times of chopping,’ and since we have chopped it twice, so maybe we can now be greedy to expect it to fall.

In response, V said, “If you take eight more shots, Jin will be 40,” and Jin corrected it to 38 instead of 40, making people laugh.

Earlier, the U.S. Recording Academy, which hosts the Grammy Awards, nominated BTS for this year’s Grammy Award “Best Duo/Group Performance” category. Last year, they were the 1st Korean artists to be nominated in the category and were nominated again this year. However, criticism arose that BTS was neglected as the boys failed to make it to the top four General Fields of the Grammys.

In particular, as BTS was excluded from the candidate announcement for the 2022 Grammy Awards shortly after they won the grand prize at the “American Music Awards,” one of the top three music awards in the U.S., it was as if they poured cold water on the scorching heat. Local media such as AP News, USA Today, and Los Angeles Times also rushed to raise questions about Grammys’ selection of candidates, and fans continued to protest through SNS, saying, “Grammy is a scam” by trending the hashtag “#Scammy” (Scam + Grammy).

The Grammy Awards boasts a long history and highest authority, but has been strongly criticized for being exclusive to non-English-speaking or singers of minorities and for being uncertain about its selection process. Some singers have even declared a “boycott” against the award, refusing their nominations and awards.

Meanwhile, BTS recently finished their concert for the night of Nov 27th and 28th. They will soon be joined by a total of 300,000 audiences on the 1st and 2nd of next month.
