After BTS RM came under fire by the Muslim community, BLACKPINK Jisoo was suddenly dragged into the mess.
Currently, BTS RM is being heavily criticized on the SNS platform Twitter by the Muslim community. In particular, the male idol previously shared on his Instagram story the song “Bad Religion” by Frank Ocean, which is said to contain various “Islamophobic” messages. In particular, the lyrics of the song explores the struggles of same-sex love while practicing Islam and contains the religious phrase “Allahu akbar”, while its title is believed to be diss towards Islam.
BTS RM’s action thus sparked a controversy within the Muslim community, and the key world “RM APOLOGIZE TO MUSLIMS” even started trending on Twitter, causing concerns among fans.
Against ongoing accusations, however, certain ARMYs (fans of BTS) explain that “Bad Religion” does not convey Islamophobic messages, and doesn’t actually carry negative intentions. “The song addresses the struggle of being gay while adhering to religious beliefs, rather than being Islamophobic”, they said, according to Hindustan Times.
However, the situation worsens as BLACKPINK Jisoo is dragged into the mess.
Particularly, in addition to the key word demanding an apology from RM, BLACKPINK fans discovered that the phrase “BLACKPINK APOLOGIZE TO MUSLIMS” and “JISOO APOLOGIZE TO MUSLIMS” also started to trend on Twitter.
Upon clicking onto the misleading phrases, it can be seen that certain BTS fans are collectively trending them to divert people’s attention from RM to Jisoo.
This makes the relationship between BLINKs and ARMYs more difficult. BLINKs (fans of BLACKPINK) strongly stated they did not want to get involved in the criticisms toward RM and his attitude toward Frank Ocean’s song.
Therefore, RM is not only receiving flak from fans against his alleged behavior but also criticism from BLINKs who got embroiled unwillingly in the controversy.
