BTS ‘PROOF’ sold 1.5 million copies on the first day of its release, first place on Melon’s “Top 100” at once

BTS ‘PROOF’ showed off its popularity, selling about 1.5 million copies in just half a day on Jun 10th, the day of its release.

According to the music industry, BTS ‘Proof’ sold 1,449,722 copies, including 806,899 copies of “Compact Edition” and 642,823 copies of “Standard Edition,” as of 5:30 p.m. on the Hanteo Chart. Considering that record stores usually open around 10 a.m., they easily became a million-seller in just half a day.

Sales in the first week, including the first day of release, are seen as a major indicator of the size of one’s fandom. Based on the Hanteo Chart, the highest sales in the first week was set by BTS with “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” in February 2020 which reached 3.37 million copies.

‘PROOF”‘this time includes three CDs to compile BTS’s nine-year history. As a result, considering that the price per copy is relatively expensive with 19,300 won for the Compact Edition and 54,900 won for the Standard Edition (according to Weverse Shop), the “1.5 million copies sold on the first day” performance is a great success.

BTS has achieved fame not only on the album sales but also on the music charts. As soon as the title song “Yet To Come” was released at 1 p.m., it immediately reached the top spot at 2 p.m.  on the nation’s largest music site Melon’s “Top 100.”

An official from Melon explained, “Since the introduction of the Melon ‘Top 100’ chart in August last year, BTS’s ‘Yet to Come’ is the first song to enter the top spot as soon as it is released.” As of 5 p.m., BTS ranked No. 1 in Melon’s “Top 100” chart with “Yet To Come”, No. 16 with “Dynamite,” No. 17 with “Born Singer,” No. 18 with “Butter,” No. 20 with “Permission To Dance,” No. 21 with “Run with BTS”, No. 30 with “For Youth”, No. 38 with “Spring Day”, No. 45 with “My Universe”, No. 73 with “Boy With Luv”.

In other words, 10% of the charts are filled with BTS songs. BTS also topped Genie and Bugs chart.

Meanwhile, many are paying attention to BTS’s performance on the U.S. Billboard chart as well as in Korea. Considering that the Billboard chart starts counting every Friday, they released their new songs at 0 o’clock in eastern U.S. time and 1 p.m. in Korean time.

BTS has topped the Billboard main single chart “Hot 100” with a total of six songs, including “Dynamite,” “Savage Love,” “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” “Permission to Dance” and “My Universe.” They have ranked first on Billboard’s main album chart “Billboard 200” with 5 albums, including “LOVE YOURSELF: Tear”, “LOVE YOURSELF: Answer”, “MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA”, “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” and “BE”.

In particular, their album “BE,” released in November 2020, also wrote an extraordinary record by topping both the Billboard album chart and singles chart at the same time. In the music industry, as BTS ‘PROOF’ covers their nine-year career, many says it’s worth looking forward to the group’s next Billboard album and single chart results, which will be released around Jun 21st.
