Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-sup issued a special order regarding BTS.
On August 31st, Minister Lee announced at the National Assembly Defense Committee that he would conduct a public opinion survey to resolve the controversy over BTS‘ military service.
He said, “I have instructed my staff this morning to expedite the public opinion survey.”
Regarding BTS’ military service, Minister Lee said, “Ultimately, the national interest should be considered at various levels. I think it can be considered not only at the economic level but also at other levels such as constitutional values and cultural values.”
He added, “We will make a decision as soon as possible by considering national interests at various levels and synthesizing commissioners’ opinions.”
Meanwhile, Head of Military Manpower Administration Lee Ki-sik reacted negatively to Special Cases on Military Service such as supplementary service. The reason is that military service resources are gradually decreasing.
Minister Lee graduated from the Korea Military Academy and became the first Minister of National Defense under the Yoon Suk-yeol government.
