BTS Jungkook Breaks Global Streaming Record on Spotify, Becomes First K-pop and Second Asian Soloist to Do So

BTS member Jungkook has reached a new milestone in his music career as he became the first K-pop solo artist to surpass 500 million global streams on Spotify.

According to World Music Awards (WMA), a European music news outlet, Jungkook broke this record thanks to his collaboration with Charlie Puth, “Left and Right,” which has garnered 500 million filtered streams on Spotify.

The WMA also reported that this achievement made Jungkook the first K-pop and Korean solo artist to achieve such a feat.

The WMA also recognized that Jungkook is the only Asian solo artist to have joined the exclusive 500 million stream club on Spotify. The only other solo Asian artist to have done so is Joji, who is also the only Asian solo singer to have achieved 500 million streams on Spotify prior to Jungkook.

It’s worth noting that the 500 million streams mentioned above are a filtered count on Spotify’s global chart. In reality, Jungkook actually achieved 500 million streams back on February 11, 2022, if you go by unfiltered streams.

Regardless, this is still the fastest record set by a K-pop solo artist for a single song on Spotify, and achieving the 500 million milestone on the global chart is a first for K-pop solo artists.

With 253 days since its release, “Left and Right”‘s filtering rate has been reported to be around 5%. This means that Jungkook’s success with the song cannot be solely attributed to fans’ streaming power, but rather it’s a testament to its popularity.

Furthermore, “Left and Right” has been on Spotify’s “Global Weekly Top Songs” chart for 35 consecutive weeks, counting from February 17 to February 23, 2022, which makes it the K-pop solo song with the longest charting period on the said list.

The song has also broken records in terms of the fastest time taken to reach 1 billion streams. It took only 24 days for “Left and Right” to achieve 1 billion streams, 61 days for 2 billion streams, 104 days for 3 billion streams, and 159 days for 4 billion streams, unfiltered.

Jungkook’s success on Spotify is a testament to his massive influence and popularity in the music industry, and it’s not the first time he has achieved such feats on the platform. He was crowned as the “Top K-pop Artist of 2022” on Spotify’s year-end chart, further proving his impact.
