BTS Jin will enlist as early as the end of this year

Jin (Kim Seok-jin), the eldest member of BTS, is scheduled to join the military, and attention is also being paid to the specific enlistment time of him and his members.

On Oct 17th, BTS‘s agency HYBE announced, “BTS has begun their concrete preparations to fulfill their military service obligations,” adding, “BTS member Jin (Kim Seok-jin) will apply for the postponement cancellation of his enlistment at the end of October 2022 and will follow the procedures related to his upcoming military service. The other members will also carry out their military service sequentially according to their respective plans.”

If Jin submits a request to cancel the postponement of his enlistment at the end of this month, he is likely to join the military as early as this year.

If someone whose enlistment is postponed wants to join the military before the end of their postponement period, they must submit a cancellation request for the postponement of the military service to the Military Manpower Administration. After that, the Military Manpower Administration will decide the time of their enlistment and send a notice of enlistment according to the enlistment plan, military requirements, and the number of people waiting for enlistment.

If Jin submits a cancellation application, he will usually receive a notice of enlistment within three months, but if there are fewer people waiting for enlistment than usual, he can join the military in two months after submitting the cancellation application.

Jin was born in 1992 and is 30 years old this year. According to the revised Military Service Act in 2020, his enlistment has been postponed until the end of this year after being recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The current Military Service Act stipulates that people with special skills in the arts and sports fields prescribed by the Presidential Decree and recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism may be incorporated into arts and sports personnel. However, the Enforcement Decree of the Military Service Act does not include “popular culture” as a specialty in the arts and sports fields, raising the issue of equity for popular cultural artists who promote national prestige.

Currently, the age of application for recruiting soldiers such as the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and some special forces is up to 28. Jin (30 years old) will join Nonsan Training Center or the front-line unit recruit training center as an active duty soldier and serve in the army.

Meanwhile, BTS met fans at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium in Yeonje-gu, Busan on Oct 15th through the free concert “Yet To Come in BUSAN” to pray for the 2030 Busan World Expo.
