BTS Jin welcomes J-Hope to the military, “I’m a private, so don’t try to make eye contact with me”

BTS’s oldest member Jin, who is serving in the military, welcomed J-Hope to become the second member to enlist.

On February 26th, Jin commented “Welcome…” under J-Hope’s post on BTS’s fan community Weverse.

J-Hope replied, “Tada… Have a good weekend… Thank you for calling…”. In response, Jin jokingly said, “ㅋㅋㅋㅋ J-Hope ㅋㅋㅋㅋ”, adding “I’m going to become a private soon. If we bump into each other, don’t try to make eye contact with me. I’m a private and you’re a trainee soldier ㅋㅋㅋㅋ”.

As J-Hope sent a salute emoticon, Jin continued to tease his brother, saying “To form the angle of saluting, your wrist and forearm should be kept in a straight line 45 degrees from the ground, your upper arm has to be maintained from between 30 to 45 degrees.” Replying to Jin’s lesson on the saluting method, J-Hope said, “You really are a tiger assistant ”.

Earlier on the same day, BTS’s agency Big Hit Music released an announcement on Weverse, saying “We would like to inform our fans that J-Hope has started the procedures for fulfilling his mandatory military duty. He has completed his application for deferment of enlistment, and we will inform you of any further news related to his military enlistment as soon as it is determined”, adding “We ask for warm support and unchanging love until the day J-Hope fulfills his military duty and returns in good health. We will continue to provide our unwavering support and affection for our artists. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, the oldest member Jin enlisted in December last year as an active-duty soldier. He was assigned as an assistant at the boot camp of the Army Infantry Division 5 in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do.

Born in 1994, J-Hope was previously allowed to postpone his enlistment until the end of 2023, when he turns 30, with the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism under the revised Military Service Act in 2020. He will become the second member of BTS to enlist and fulfill military duty.
