BTS Jin officially submitted his postponement cancellation request, his active enlistment will start as soon as the end of this year
Jin (30, real name Kim Seok-jin), the oldest member of BTS, officially announced his intention to cancel the military service postponement and will enlist as early as this year.
According to related insiders on Nov 4th, Jin has submitted a “cancellation of postponement of enlistment” to the Military Manpower Administration.
Jin, who was born in 1992, is 30 years old and the oldest in BTS, was recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to postpone his enlistment under the revised Military Service Act in 2020. If someone who is postponing his enlistment wants to join the military before the end of the postponement period, he or she must submit a request to cancel the postponement of the military service to the Military Manpower Administration. According to Jin’s submission of a cancellation request, the Military Manpower Administration will decide the timing of Jin’s enlistment and send him a notice in consideration of its enlistment plan, military requirement, and the number of people waiting for enlistment.
Usually, a notice of enlistment is issued within three months after the cancellation request is submitted, but if the number of people waiting for enlistment is less than expected, the person in regard can join the military within two months after the submission of their cancellation form. In such cases, Jin may enlist as an active-duty soldier at the Nonsan Training Center or the front-line unit boot camp within this year. It may take more time if there are a lot of people waiting, but winter after the end of October is usually a time when fewer people apply to join the army.
Jin is only allowed to join the army because the current military service law allows naval, air force, and marine support only to people under the age of 28.
Earlier, BTS’ agency Big Hit Music announced in a public announcement on Oct 17th that Jin will apply for the cancellation of his enlistment postponement.
The Ministry of National Defense said that even if BTS is serving in the military, it will provide opportunities for the group to participate in performances if the members wish to do so when there is a national event for the public interest or an event held at the national interest level.
