tvN’s upcoming weekend drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is set to premiere on August 23, offering a unique mix of romance, fantasy, and culinary art. Directed by Jang Tae-yoo, the series stars YoonA and Lee Chae-min as leads whose unexpected chemistry has already become a major talking point.

A Chef Lost in Time

The story follows Yeon Ji-young (YoonA), a Michelin three-star head chef who, after winning France’s top culinary competition, is suddenly transported back to the Joseon dynasty. There, she encounters a feared yet food-obsessed tyrant king (Lee Chae-min), sparking a survival fantasy romance flavored with passion and gourmet dishes.

YoonA revealed why she chose the role: “I didn’t hesitate to join because I could work with director Jang Tae-yoo. The cooking theme fascinated me, and the story of adapting and pursuing dreams in a new era felt inspiring.”

Casting Changes and Fresh Pairing

Originally set to star Park Sung-hoon, the male lead role shifted to Lee Chae-min following early casting controversies. Director Jang expressed full confidence in the decision: “Lee Chae-min wasn’t my first choice, but I’m now 120% satisfied. He trains daily in horseback riding and archery and even keeps his abs ready for filming.”

Lee Chae-min acknowledged the pressure but credited his co-stars: “I felt a huge responsibility, but senior actors gave me guidance and feedback that helped me adjust quickly.”

Chemistry that Captivates

Known for Deep Rooted Tree and The Lovers of Red Sky, director Jang highlighted the leads’ natural chemistry: “YoonA and Lee Chae-min fit together like a painting. Even staff were amazed. During the hug and kiss scenes, everyone on set said their hearts fluttered.”

YoonA praised her partner’s intensity: “From the moment he appeared in royal robes, he embodied the king. His focus and delivery helped me immerse in my role.”

With food as a central theme, each episode was developed with input from professional royal cuisine experts. Director Jang compared the series to a grand banquet: “Just as Joseon royalty were served full-course meals, we’ve prepared 12 episodes like a 12-dish feast.”

YoonA also trained with chefs: “Cooking used to be a hobby, but now I understand professional culinary terms. The preparation was a rewarding process.”

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty premieres on August 23 at 9:10 p.m. KST on tvN, promising viewers romance, fantasy, and flavors that will linger long after the credits roll.
