BLACKPINK Jennie becomes 1st female Kpop soloist to reach 900 million views for an MV with “SOLO”
Jennie of BLACKPINK has set a new record for accumulating the most views on a MV by a Kpop female solo artist.
According to YG Entertainment on the 21st, Jennie’s MV for her song “Solo” has surpassed 900 million views on YouTube at 12:56 am (KST) on the same day. This is approximately 4 years and 4 months since its release in November 2018.
With this, Blackpink now has a total of 7 videos on YouTube with over 900 million views. Previously, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (2 billion views), “Kill This Love” (1.7 billion views), “BOOMBAYAH” (1.5 billion views), “How You Like That” music video (1.1 billion views) and dance performance video (1.3 billion views), and “As If It’s Your Last” (1.2 billion views) had achieved this milestone.
“SOLO” received a lot of love from music fans for its beautiful chord progression and simple melody line in the intro, as well as its straightforward and honest lyrics that express a confident demeanor that is not bound by sadness even after a breakup.
Blackpink, the group that Jennie belongs to, is currently on their largest K-pop girl group world tour “In Your Area” which draws in 1.5 million fans. In April, they will perform as a headliner at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States, and in July, they will perform at the Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival in the UK.
