BLACKPINK Jennie will make a solo comeback? New song registered

Speculations that BLACKPINK Jennie will make a solo comeback have emerged amid rumors about BLACKPINK’s contract renewal.

On August 8th, BLACKPINK celebrated their 7th anniversary. However, this also means that the group may fall under the “7-year curse” of Kpop idols, considering that the issue of their contract renewal remains.

While the members hinted at BLACKPINK’s continuation as a group through out their 7th anniversary, there has been no official statement, aside from YG stating that everything is “under discussion”.

Nevertheless, there are claims that BLACKPINK’s future looks bright, with some saying that Jennie will make a solo comeback in the near future.

Since her single “SOLO” in 2018, Jennie has not released any solo album. Afterward, during BLACKPINK’s world tour “BORN PINK”, Jennie introduced a new solo stage, “You & Me”, raising fans’ expectations.

As of the moment, “You & Me” is still an unreleased song that could only be enjoyed at BLACKPINK’s concerts.

However, on August 9th (local time), it was revealed that Jennie’s “You & Me” was registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). According to the website, ASCAP is an organization that ensures fair compensation for songwriters when their music is publicly performed.

With the registration of “You & Me” on ASCAP, speculation is pouring in that Jennie will soon release her 1st solo album. Although the song is still in the registration phase, fans are now looking forward to both BLACKPINK’s group activities and Jennie’s solo comeback.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK recently showed their Kpop prowess by being nominated in four categories at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 12th at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA.
