“The Idol” is set in the music industry in Los Angeles (LA) and centers on Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), an aspiring pop idol. It is co-produced by singer The Weeknd and directed by director Sam Levinson of HBO’s popular series “Euphoria”. Details related to the characters are still veiled.

Starring Johnny Depp’s daughter-actress Lily-Rose Depp, “The Idol” boasts a splendid lineup including The Weeknd, Troy Sivan and Dan Levy. In particular, it is the first work that BLACKPINK Jennie challenged to act, so it is attracting great attention in Korea.

Local media outlet Deadline said, “Organizers have yet to confirm whether Jennie will be in attendance at Cannes, but the 27-year-old, best known as a member of the mega-popular band BLACKPINK, would be a huge Gen-Z focussed attraction for the fest.” Jennie’s attendance is still undecided.

Meanwhile, the 76th Cannes Film Festival selected Johnny Depp’s comeback film “Jeanne du Barry” (directed by Maïwenn) as its opening film. It will be held from May 16th to 27th.
