BLACKPINK extends record as the first music act in YouTube history to hit 80 million subscribers

BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has surpassed 80 million subscribers.

On September 5, the number of subscribers to BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel officially exceeded 80 million, after about 6 years and 3 months since the channel was launched. This makes BLACKPINK the first and only artist in YouTube history to reach 80 million subscribers.

Around the release date (August 19) of the MV for the pre-release single “Pink Venom”, BLACKPINK’s YouTube subscribers increased by nearly 3 million at once. It shows the extraordinary anticipation of fans around the world for BLACKPINK’s comeback.

In July 2020, BLACKPINK showed off their powerful presence by being the first non-English speaking artist to be listed in the Top 5 YouTube channels with the most subscribers. Since then, BLACKPINK has surpassed famous pop stars namely Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmello, and Justin Bieber to become the No.1 most subscribed music act in the world.

The number of YouTube subscribers is an important indicator of the steady interest and anticipation of loyal fans, not just curiosity or one-time viewing of content. The number of MV views and streams, which naturally exert influence through this, also affect various major global charts such as Billboard.

The cumulative number of views of BLACKPINK’s videos posted on their YouTube channel so far has exceeded 26 billion, including “DDU-DU DDU-DU” MV, which made BLACKPINK the first K-pop group to reach 2 billion views, “Kill This Love” (1.6 billion views), “Boombayah” (1.4 billion views), “As if it’s your last” (1.2 billion views), and “How You Like That” performance video (1.2 billion views).

BLACKPINK will release their 2nd full album “BORN PINK” on September 16. In addition, they will hold a concert in Seoul on October 15 and 16, before going on a large-scale world tour in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
