BLACKPINK confirms appearance at Coachella as headliner, first in Kpop history

Girl group BLACKPINK will be appearing at Coachella, the United States’ largest music festival as a headliner.

While the group BLACKPINK is on their world tour, the group has confirmed their appearance in the largest music festival in the United States, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (hereinafter referred to as Coachella).

On January 10th (local time), Coachella announced, “BLACKPINK will perform as a headliner for ‘Coachella’ on April 15th and 22nd”.

Coachella, which started in 1999 with a long tradition and authority, is a two-week music festival held in Indio, California, USA, with about 300,000 spectators every year. The Coachella performance hall is about 92 times the size of Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, and it is a festival that exchanges not only music but also cultural trends such as fashion and lifestyle.

BLACKPINK was the first K-pop girl group to appear on Coachella in 2019, and now, they once again got invited to perform. So far, BLACKPINK is the only Kpop artist to stand on the Coachella stage as a “Headliner”.

In addition, BLACKPINK appeared alongside world-renowned pop stars in the documentary “Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert”, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the music festival. They were also selected as one of Coachella’s “legendary stages”, proving huge meaning and monumental footsteps for BLACKPINK and for Kpop as a whole. 

Attention is being focused on what kind of new stage BLACKPINK, who returns to Coachella after 4 years, will captivate music fans with.

On the other hand, In July, BLACKPINK will be the first K-pop artist to stand as a headliner on the stage of “Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival” (hereafter referred to as “BST Hyde Park”), the UK’s top music festival. The girl group has established itself as the only Kpop artist to be simultaneously invited as a “headliner” to the largest music festivals in the US and UK, which are considered the two largest music markets in the world.

BLACKPINK is currently in the middle of their world tour, which is expected to attract around 1.5 million audience members. In 2022, they successfully completed 14 North American stops in 7 cities and 10 European concerts in 7 cities. On the 7th and 8th, the group began the Asian leg of their tour, starting with Thailand – Lisa’s home nation.
