BLACKPINK becomes the first Korean girl group to top the US’s Billboard Global 200

Kpop girl group BLACKPINK topped the US’s Billboard Global 200 chart with their pre-release singly “Pink Venom”

On August 29 (local time), the US Billboard released their main chart rankings which compiled data from August 19 to 25 through its homepage and SNS. According to this, BLACKPINK’s pre-release single “Pink Venom” topped both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. US charts.

“BLACKPINK’s ‘Pink Venom’ recorded 212 million streams and more than 36,000 sound source sales (downloads) in one week. This is the 2nd highest number ever among artists worldwide”, said Billboard.

With this ranking, BLACKPINK broke their personal record for “Lovesick Girls”, which landed at 2nd on the Billboard Global 200 and was released back in October 2020.

“Pink Venom” also came 22nd on Billboard’s main single chart, Hot 100, making it the best performing among non-collaborative tracks of BLACKPINK.

With such an achievement, BLACKPINK has entered Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the 10th time. Prior to “Pink Venom”, they made it with “Ice Cream” (13th), “How You Like That” (33rd), “Kill This Love” (41st), “DDU-DU DDU-DU” (55th), “Lovesick Girls” (59th), Rose’s solo song “On The Ground” (70th), and Lisa’s “LALISA” (84th).

Including “Sour Candy” (33rd) with Lady Gaga and “Kiss and Makeup” (93rd), a collaboration song with Dua Lipa, a total of 10 BLACKPINK songs have entered the “Hot 100.”

Unlike the Hot 100, which adds broadcast scores and album sales, “Billboard Global 200” ranks the most popular songs based on streaming and music sales (downloads) collected from 200 regions around the world, including the United States. It is a chart created by US Billboard, reflecting the latest trends in the popular music market, and is considered one of the global popularity indicators.
