“Alchemy of Souls” Oh My Girl Arin “I’m sad but proud…I learned a lot”

Oh My Girl Arin shared her thoughts on successfully completing her first traditional drama challenge.

Arin acted as Jin Cho-yeon, the best celebrity in Daeho and the youngest daughter of the Jin family, in tvN’s Saturday-Sunday drama “Alchemy of Souls” (written by Hong Jung-eun, Hong Mi-ran/directed by Park Joon-hwa), which ended on August 28th.

Arin portrayed Jin Cho-yeon, who looks more gorgeous and dignified than anyone else on the outside but in fact has a child-like innocence, with her own unique charm.

Arin, who completed her own character with stable acting skills and high immersion even though it was her first traditional drama, delivered a series of questions and answers to commemorate the end of the work through her agency WM Entertainment.

The following is Arin’s “Alchemy of Souls” wrap-up Q&A

Q. How do you feel about finishing “Alchemy of Souls”?

A. I’m very sad as I have to say goodbye to the project that I’ve been working on for a year, and I still can’t believe it’s over. It’s my first traditional drama, so I felt attached to it a lot, and I kind of regret it. However, I’m proud and happy that a lot of viewers enjoyed watching “Alchemy of Souls”.

Q. It was your first traditional drama attempt. Was there any pressure? What did you pay most attention to while preparing?

A. It was a great honor to be able to film with great seniors and actors that I’d only seen through works. That’s how nervous I was. As a fan, I respected and liked them, so I worked harder not to cause problems for them while working together on set. I thought the most important thing was to do my part well.

Q. What did you want viewers to see while expressing the character “Jin Cho-yeon”?

A. The biggest strength and charm of Cho-yeon is that she’s grumpy all day, but rather looks lovely. Therefore, rather than giving meaning to the lines, I tried to empty my mind and see them as they are. As she’s Cho-yeon, even if she said something bad to Mu-deok, she would have said it with a pure heart absent of any ill intentions. I did a lot of research because I wanted to show that side of Cho-yeon the best.

Q. You received a lot of love for your high synchronization with Jin Cho-yeon. What do you think about Jin Cho-yeon’s charm and her synchronization with you?

A. As I said above, Cho-yeon is really immature, but I think she has purity and loveliness that can never be hated. There are some differences between Cho-yeon and me, but we seem to have become more and more alike over time. From the moment the director first gave me the script, he said “I just want you to act as you are”, but it was harder than I thought. (Laugh) In the beginning, I was like, “Who am I? How should I express myself?” I thought a lot about this. However, the more I filmed, the more comfortable I got. I think I became Cho-yeon really naturally.

Q. What’s the most memorable story during the filming?

A. There was a scene at the beginning of the drama where I had a lot of lines, but I was even more worried because a lot of actors also appeared in that scene. In fact, I got nervous after making a few mistakes, but thankfully, Yoo Joon-sang sunbaenim and Park Eun-hye sunbaenim, who played my mother, gave me a lot of advice on the set. Thanks to them, I was able to relax and focus on the filming. I’m very grateful for that.”

Q. What’s the most memorable scene or line to you? Why?

I remember the scene where Cho-yeon and Dang-gu fought with Mu-deok and mourned the death of their father in episode 20 the most. I cried a lot while filming it. The scene gave me a different feeling. It left a deeper impression on me since it was the scene where Cho-yeon showed deeper and more detailed emotions than her normal appearance. I think Cho-yeon looked very different in this scene.

Q. Among the reactions from people around you and the viewers, what was the most impressive one to you?

A.  After watching the scene where I ran away with Dang-gu and stayed at Jang Wook’s house, then I complained to Mu-deok about the side dishes, many viewers and fans reacted, “If I complain about side dishes like that, I’ll have to starve for a week. Get a hold of yourself”. That comment was so funny and I laughed as soon as I saw it. I also heard the reaction “There are so many people who love Cho-yeon as much as her parents do” and I think it’s so interesting. (smile)

Q. Is there any genre or character you want to try?

A. I want to try a funny, sweet, and exciting rom-com. I usually enjoy watching rom-com dramas and movies. I always wondered, “Will I be able to do well with this genre?”. I had a chance to show you a romantic comedy performance with Dang-gu through “Alchemy of Souls”, but it was harder than I thought. (laughs) So I remember complaining, “I think rom-com is the most difficult to act” with Dang-gu. But since it’s hard, I want to try it someday. I want to challenge myself to grow further!

Q. Please greet the viewers who have loved Jin Cho-yeon of “Alchemy of Souls”.

A. Thank you so much for loving and supporting “Alchemy of Souls” and Choyeon for the past 3 months. It was a valuable time for me to see, feel, and learn a lot of things. Since many people gave me their warm interest and support, I will become Arin who can show you more of my growth. Please look forward to the return of “Alchemy of Souls” Light and Shadow” and Cho Yeon!
