Girl group BLACKPINK conquers the world, ranking first in 69 countries and regions with a pre-release single.
According to YG Entertainment of August 20th, BLACKPINK’s “Pink Venom”, which was released on August 19th at 1PM (KST), topped the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart. In addition, the song has been showing equal popularity across 4 continents: North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, taking first place in a total of 69 nations and regions.
In Korea, “Pink Venom” has also been sweeping through domestic music charts. In particular, the track went straight to number 1 on streaming platforms Bugs, Vibe, and Genie after release. Meanwhile, on the Melon Top 100 chart, which calculates the total usage of the past 24 hours and real-time number of users, “Pink Venom” entered 3rd place within an hour, eventually stealing 1st place, and is coming really close to achieving a perfect-all-kill on iChart.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK’s “Pink Venom” MV is receiving explosive reactions. Their premiere for the new MV recorded about 2.5 million simultaneous viewers and surpassed 70 million views in about 15 hours after release. This is an increase more dramatic that BLACKPINK’s mega hit “How You Like That”, which is the fastest Kpop MV to record 100 million views (32 hours) among Kpop girl groups.
On the other hand, influential foreign media sites such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NME, SCMP, and The Times are looking back on BLACKPINK’s comeback and past records, expressing great anticipation for the group’s future moves. US Billboard praised Black Pink’s unique identity in the new song, and NME said, “Blackpink has set out to conquer the world.”
