The 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF 2025) saw an unusual hiccup during one of its most anticipated events. The open talk for the film The People Upstairs took place on the morning of September 19 at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae, drawing large crowds eager to meet the cast.
However, despite the high anticipation, lead actors Ha Jung-woo, Gong Hyo-jin, and Kim Dong-wook arrived 15 minutes later than scheduled. The delay, reportedly due to traffic congestion, left hundreds of fans waiting under the morning sun with growing disappointment.
The host explained the situation from the stage, but the atmosphere among the audience reflected frustration over the lost time. “We just stood here blankly for 15 minutes, waiting for something to happen,” one attendee was heard saying.
Once on stage, the cast engaged in conversations about the film and shared moments with the audience. Still, the precious quarter-hour that could have been spent discussing the project in more depth was lost. Considering that BIFF is not only a celebration but also a key promotional platform, the late arrival sparked regret among fans and industry observers alike.
Despite the setback, the actors eventually managed to capture the crowd’s attention with insights into The People Upstairs. Yet, for many fans, the memory of waiting in vain for those 15 minutes lingered longer than the talk itself.
