Best Actress at Blue Dragon Series Awards 2022: Han Hyo Joo, Kim Hye Soo, Oh Yeon Seo, or a surprise factor will win?

The Blue Dragon Series Awards, which aims to honor OTT series, draws attention with its nominations for Best Actress.

After the huge success of the prestigious Blue Dragon Film Awards, the news site Sports Chosun is going to host a new award ceremony to honor series aired on online platforms. The award will start in 2022, and promises to be as big as the highly-anticipated Baeksang.

Different from Baeksang Arts Awards, Blue Dragon Series Awards only focus on original series or series produced on online streaming platforms like Netflix, TVING, Coupang Play, Disney+, Wavve, seezn, KakaoTV, and more. However, with the intensive growth of OTT, this award ceremony is already drawing huge attention with its nomination, especially for Best Actress.

Kim Hye Soo – Juvenile Justice

Juvenile Justice

Kim Hye Soo, who was previously nominated for Best Actress at the 2022 Baeksang Arts Awards, continues to be a star nominee for the 1st Blue Dragon Series Awards. In particular, the actress’ portrayal in “Juvenile Justice” was brilliant enough to nail her a nomination.

Most reviews seem to agree that “Juvenile Justice”, while just as great as ever, is not a phenomenal role in the career of seasoned actress Kim Hye Soo. Therefore, while her chances of winning are high, it is not something definite.

Kim Go Eun – Yumi’s Cells

Compared to “Goblin” (also known as “Guardian: The Lonely And Great God”), Kim Go Eun’s performance in “Yumi’s Cells” was outstanding enough to earn the actress a nomination, but not quite there to secure a win.

Still, it is undeniable that Kim Go Eun managed to excellently deliver the huge range of emotions in her character Yumi, without having to exaggerate her facial expressions.

Oh Yeon Seo – Mad For Each Other

Through “Mad For Each Other”, Oh Yeon Seo has proven that she’s not just gorgeous, but also madly talented, even dismissing her image to deliver a hilarious character. The series, which was produced by KakaoTV, was an unexpected charmer, where Oh Yeon Seo got to show off to the best of her ability.

In addition, despite playing a “mad” role, Oh Yeon Seo delivered a natural and not overwhelming performance. Therefore, she stands a fair chance at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.

Kim Sung Ryung – Political Fever

“Political Fever” is a female centric series that tackles the tough issue of politics. The series took K-drama fans by surprise when it was nominated for “Best Drama” at the 2022 Baeksang, and true enough, it was gripping enough to earn 3 nominations at the first OTT drama awards.

With “Political Fever”, Kim Sung Ryung may be a dark horse at the 1st Blue Dragon Series Awards. While the role is not necessarily the best in the actress’s career, it was still impressive enough to be a tough competitor.

Han Hyo Joo – Happiness

Last but not least, Han Hyo Joo is a prime candidate for Best Actress with her impressive portrayal in “Happiness”. The series, while not recording high viewership ratings in Korea, was extremely well-received internationally, with extremely high discussion surrounding Han Hyo Joo.

After a long period of absence from the small screen, Han Hyo Joo once again proves her abilities via “Happiness”, receiving various critical acclaim. As a previous winner of Best Actress at the Baeksang for both TV, Drama, and Grand Prize Daesang, Han Hyo Joo is quite a formidable nominee for the new award.

With this list of nominations, Korean netizens are predicting that Kim Hye Soo and Han Hyo Joo stand the highest chances of winning Best Actress, while Oh Yeon Seo and Kim Go Eun follow behind. Kim Sung Ryung, due to her series not being viral, is said to be least likely to win, but the Blue Dragon Series Award may greatly surprise us.

The 1st Blue Dragon Series Award will be held on July 19th, 2022.
