After Park Eun Bin won Daesang at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards, attention is being paid to past winners of this huge honor.
At the 2023 Baeksang Awards, Park Eun Bin received one of the two largest honors, as she won the Daesang for Television. This is clearly a well-deserved reward for the actress, considering that she sparked a phenomenon with her transformation into autistic female lawyer Woo Young Woo of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.
In addition, since the Daesang of Baeksang Arts Awards is not exclusively for actors, but also for screenwriters, directors, as well as projects, there have only been 10 actors honored through the 59 seasons of Baeksang.
With her outstanding performance as Woo Young Woo in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, Park Eun Bin deservedly won the television Daesang at the 2023 Baeksang Awards
Hyun Bin is the only male actor to have won the Daesang at Baeksang
As of the moment, Hyun Bin is the only male actor to have won the Daesang at Baeksang. He achieved this honor in 2011 thanks to the megahit drama “Secret Garden”, where he starred alongside Ha Ji Won.
Even now, “Secret Garden” is still one of the most famous works of Hyun Bin. Although about 13 years have passed since the release of the series, Hyun Bin is still a top Hallyu star with many notable projects in both television and film.
In 2019, Hyun Bin and his wife Son Ye Jin created one of the most beautiful love stories in the history of the Korean screen with “Crash Landing on You”. Last year, his film “Confidential Assignment 2: International” achieved impressive commercial success. Meanwhile, in 2023, Hyun Bin has two film projects, “The Point Men” and “Harbin”.
Go Hyun Jung, Kim Hee Ae, and Kim Hye Ja, “the special winners” of the Baeksang’s Daesang
When it comes to picking a “Daesang legend”, the answer would definitely be Kim Hye Ja. In her career, she has won the Daesang four times, in 1979, 1989, 2009, and 2019. In fact, Kim Hye Ja became the winner of the television Daesang in 2019 for her role as Kim Hye Ja in “The Light in Your Eyes”, at the impressive age of 78.
Meanwhile, Go Hyun Jung won the Daesang at Baeksang 2010 for her role as Mishil in “Queen Seondeok”. However, this alone would not make Go Hyun Jung a “special winner” among others.
Instead, what sets her apart from other Baeksang’s Daesang winners, is the fact that the actress achieved this honor for a villain role, even “stealing the show” from the main protagonist. In 2023, Go Hyun Jung will return to the screen via the Netflix series “Mask Girl”, which is scheduled for release in June. Here, the veteran actress will work alongside Ahn Jae Hong, Yeom Hye Ran, and Nana.
On the other hand, Kim Hee Ae has secured Baeksang’s Daesangs twice across her career, and is the actress with the 2nd most wins after Kim Hye Ja. In particular, the actress was crowned at the 1993 Baeksang for “Sons and Daughters” and at the 2004 Baeksang for “Perfect Love”.
At present, Kim Hee Ae is gaining a whopping amount of attention from Netflix’s hit drama series “Queenmaker”.
Apart from the aforementioned names, other Daesang winners at the “Baeksang Arts Awards” include Kim Min Ja (A Lovely Affair), Go Doo Shim (My Husband’s Woman), Kim Young Ok and Jung Hye Sun (I Sell Happiness), and Jun Ji Hyun (My Love from the Star).
