According to QQ, Barbie Hsu died unexpectedly in Japan in February 2025 after suffering an acute illness. Because she did not leave behind a valid will, her family became embroiled in a fierce inheritance dispute that lasted for more than a year.
During that time, social media was flooded with rumors claiming that Barbie Hsu’s family did not want to take custody of her children and had allegedly hidden some of the late actress’s assets abroad for personal gain. The speculation intensified after Barbie’s mother, Huang Chun Mei, revealed that she was at risk of losing her home because she could no longer afford the mortgage payments. After the inheritance issues were resolved, Huang Chun Mei stated that only about NT$2 million remained from Barbie Hsu’s estate.
There were also reports claiming that South Korean artist DJ Koo Jun Yup had moved out after allegedly clashing with Huang Chun Mei over the inheritance. However, those rumors were later dismissed after DJ Koo and Barbie Hsu’s family were seen having dinner together, signaling that there was no family feud over the estate.
Most recently, ETtoday reported that ownership of the luxury villa had officially been transferred to DJ Koo, despite his earlier public statement that he intended to give up his inheritance rights in favor of his mother-in-law. Barbie Hsu’s husband ultimately inherited one-third of her estate. A friend of Wang Xiaofei, Barbie’s ex-husband, also revealed that the actress’s two children received the remaining two-thirds. However, because both children are still minors, Wang Xiaofei will manage their inherited assets until they reach the age of 18.
Since Barbie Hsu did not complete a legally valid will before her death, her estate was divided according to Taiwan’s inheritance laws. Under the law, a surviving spouse and children are first-priority heirs and are entitled to equal shares of the inheritance.
Barbie Hsu was reportedly worth more than NT$660 million in real estate assets, along with approximately NT$330 million in jewelry, earnings from her entertainment career, and various investments.
As for Barbie Hsu’s mother, she previously stated that she had given up any intention of contesting the inheritance. “If Wang Xiaofei wants to fight over anything, let him. I only care about my daughter. As long as my family and grandchildren are well taken care of, that’s enough for me. I’m getting old and no longer have the energy for these disputes,” she said.
