BABYMONSTER Ahyeon used the n-word in a school performance

Ahyeon, a member of YG’s upcoming girl group BABYMONSTER, used a discriminatory term in a previous performance.

Recently, a video of BABYMONSTER Ahyeon performing Nicki Minaj’s “Feeling Myself” and Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B’s “Finesse” at Hanlim Multi Art School started to gain massive attention after it was published on SNS platform Twitter.

In particular, the video shows Ahyeon rapping to the somewhat explicit songs while accurately repeating every single word from the original lyrics, including the “n-word”.

The “n-word” here refers to a discriminatory term used against black people. Seeing that Nicki Minaj, the original singer of “Feeling Myself”, is black, it’s fine for her to use the word, but inappropriate for Ahyeon to do the same.

As a result, many international fans have been expressing their disappointment and demanding YG Entertainment to speak up regarding the situation.

Some fans also mentioned that since Ahyeon said she has been learning English since the age of 5, it is impossible for her not to know about the “n-word” and its discriminatory history.

On the other hand, using the “n-word” is a serious matter for international fans. Previously in October 2021, aespa Giselle was also criticized for lip-syncing to it.
