Art VS Obscene? Hwasa’s agency “Police are reviewing the case”

Singer Hwasa was accused by a parents’ group for her performance at a university festival. Is it art or obscenity?

When asked about this matter on July 10th, Hwasa‘s agency P NATION said, “We are aware that the police are currently reviewing the case.”

Earlier on the same day, Seoul Seongdong Police Station announced that Hwasa was recently accused by the Student Parents’ Human Rights Protection Solidarity on charges of indecent performance and launched an investigation into her.

The Student Parents’ Human Rights Protection Solidarity reportedly reported Hwasa to the police for causing discomfort to the audience watching her performance at a university festival last May.

In the complaint, the Student Parents’ Human Rights Protection Solidarity claimed, “Hwasa’s behavior is reminiscent of perverted sexual intercourse, which is enough to bring shame to the public who witnessed it. It cannot be interpreted as an artistic act because it does not fit the context of the choreography.”

Hwasa caused controversy with sensational movements she showed while performing at a university festival in Jongno-gu, Seoul last May. On the other hand, there was also an opinion that it should be viewed as art since it was a performance centered on college students.
